COPEL MOSCU: Festival Director

copel-moscuBorn in 1953, Copel Moscu graduated from the National Institute of Drama and Film Bucharest in 1978, after which he worked at the Sahia Documentary Film Studio. One of the key authors of the Romanian Documentary New Wave from the ’80 (together with Ovidiu Bose Pastina, Tereza Barta, Laurentiu Damian, Sabina Pop) he was a pioneer in challenging the borders of cinema language in controversial subversive films which concealed, under daring conceptual and formal experimenting, a fierce criticism of the communist regime, films banned by the establishment’s censorship. Copel Moscu created over 50 short and feature films, as director and scriptwriter, for which he was awarded over 25 international and national prizes (The Evening School, On the Ozana Shore, My Beloved School, The Bronze Age, A Day Will Come, and I Chose Freedom). Presently he teaches film directing at the National University of Drama and Film Bucharest (UNATC) and video-art at Bucharest Art University (UNARTE) and is referred to as an artistic consultant for television and cinema. In 2010, consistent with his free innovative vision and educational commitment, he took the challenge to offer Romanian audiences, particularly to cinema and visual students, the first international experimental film festival in Romania.
 

RIK VERMEULEN: Curator International Selection

vermeulenBorn in The Netherlands, based in Rotterdam, Rik Vermeulen studied Economic Engineering in Dordrecht; Art and Culture Science at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and received his Master's from Film & Television Studies at the University of Amsterdam. He produced a number of short films before joining the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 1998 and worked until 2010 for the festival's CineMart, Film Office and Programme Department. As a freelancer, Rik is Executive Director of the Transilvania International Film Festival, the most important international feature film festival in Romania, and main programmer of the Noordelijk Film Festival (Leeuwarden), the largest film festival in the northern regions of The Netherlands. He is a member of the advise commission of the Dutch Film Fund for feature length fiction, artistic and crossover, development, production and international co-productions, and made recently his first moves into script doctoring. He was involved also in the Cent East Market Warsaw, a project of the Warsaw Film Festival and a platform where Eastern European films (in post-production) are presented to buyers and distributors, and the Sarajevo Cine Link Co-production market. He was involved with the set up and execution of the first 5 CineLink editions.  From October 2009 he studies a new field, Energetic Integration (Body Psychotherapy).
 

ADINA PINTILIE : Curator International Selection

pintilieAdina Pintilie is a Romanian filmmaker, recent graduate of the National University of Drama and Film Bucharest, Directing Department. At the border between fiction, documentary and visual art, her films are very particular in the new Romanian cinema landscape, distinguishing itself through a highly personal visual style, daring experimenting in cinema language and uncompromising exploration of human psychology. In 2007, her medium length Don’t Get Me Wrong -produced by AWA, with support of ARTE France and TVR, was world premiered in Locarno - Filmmakers of the Present Competition, included in IDFA 2007-Best of Fests selection, awarded Golden Dove Best Documentary Award at DOK LEIPZIG 2007 and selected/awarded in 50 international film festivals like: Thessaloniki, Montpellier, Trieste, Namur, Munchen, Moscow, Sarajevo, Indielisboa, Warszaw, Krakow etc. Her last medium length, Oxygen, was screened in Tiger Awards Short Film Competition of Rotterdam Film Festival 2010, Buenos Aires BAFICI, Montpellier, Thessaloniki, Warszaw, Bilbao and is presently traveling around the world in film festivals and museums. Her last short, SANDPIT#186, co-directed together with George Chiper, was selected in Locarno 2008, Author’s Shorts section and won the Runner Up Award in Miami IFF and Special Mention in Trieste IFF.
 

MIHAI FULGER: Curator Romanian Selection and Side Programmes

mihai-fulgerMihai Fulger is a Romanian film journalist, critic and programmer. Since 2002, he has published over 1000 articles on different film-related subjects in several cultural and general profile publications, as well as on the Internet. His first published work is a volume of interviews, The “New Wave” of Romanian Cinema (“Noul val” în cinematografia românească), awarded in 2007 with the “George Littera” prize of Romania’s Film Critics Association. He has translated and edited several film books. He is a member of the Film Critics Association within the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) and of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). He has been a member of the FIPRESCI juries in international film festivals such as Warsaw (2008), Transilvania Cluj (2010) and Pusan (2010). He has served as selector and jury member in several Romanian film festivals and has been involved in the organization of others. In 2010 he was a member of the jury for the Romanian film industry Gopo Awards.
 

OZANA NICOLAU: Project Manager

ozana-nicolauBorn in 1983, Ozana Nicolau graduated the National University of Drama and Film Bucharest 2010, Directing Department. One of her student projects, “My Sister and I” premiered at CinemaIubit International Student Film Festival Bucharest 2009 and received the two awards:  “Best Script” and “Best Actress”. The film has also been in competition at “Anonimul International Film Festival”, “7 Arts Film Festival” and “Alternative IFF” and in panorama at “Timishort” and “Iasi IFF”. Her graduating film “Surrounded by Friends” has premiered at First Step IFF, Tirana in 2010. From 2002 to 2006, she worked as photographer for  Prato Town Hall, Italy, as  cultural manager for “Leonardo da Vinci” Scholarship (Exchange program funded by the European Union) in Florence, Italy and guest manager for “Socrates-Erasmus” Scholarship, in Kortrijk, Belgium. In 2010 she took the challenge of being part of the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival team as project manager.
