Now at its 40th edition, the International Film Festival Rotterdam is considered one of the top five European film festivals, alongside Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno. International Film Festival Rotterdam is a unique combination of on one hand a high quality selection of worldwide independent, innovative and experimental cinema as well as film-related visual arts exhibitions and live performances. At the same time we are able to attract a huge audience: every year about 350.000 people visit IFFR and an impressive number of professional audiences (over 3.000 press and film industry representatives).
Next to the premieres and competitions of recent feature films, documentaries, visual arts exhibitions, theme sections and debates, we present extensive programs of short films: we screen about 400 shorts every year, divided over 45 compilation programs, a Tiger Award for Short Film competition and several performances and installations by short filmmakers. Many of the filmmakers as well as a large number of distributors, curators and other short film professionals visit our short film section. Our upcoming and 40th IFFR edition is from Jan 26th - Feb 6th 2011.

CURATOR OF CARTE BLANCHE IFFR: PETER VAN HOOF
Since 2005 he is programmer for the Rotterdam International Film Festival as head of the short film section of the festival and also responsible for the selection of features and documentaries from the German language countries.
He is founder and programmer ( from 1996 till 2005) of Cinema De Balie; the independent cinema department of political cultural center De Balie in the heart of Amsterdam. He is one of the founders and still active for De Filmbank, an organization that promotes and distributes Dutch experimental film (http://www.filmbank.nl) and that together with the Dutch Film Museum has recently merged into the Eye Film Institute.
